HOORAY FOR PUBLICATION DAY!

Finally, the day was here that I had been waiting for – publication day! My emotions were a mixed bag. Obviously, excitement was up there at the top, but so were a huge amount of nerves. Putting my book out there felt like walking out in public naked. It was allowing others inside my head and allowing judgement on my work.

I fully understand the way that fiction goes because I am an avid reader as well as a writer and I know that I don’t like everything I read, so of course not everyone is going to love my work. I was prepared to be strong and take the judgement and I still am. It’s my first large piece of published work, my first published piece of fiction so I am game for criticism and will take everything on board in a construction way.

So far SO GOOD.

Anyway. The day itself was a rainy, dull November day and work was chaotic. Everyone was building up the hype around my book signing and trying hard to work out a one-way system so that I could socially distance inside and wasn’t stuck out in the cold.

The Christmas buzz had definitely begun in the Post Office, so I was constantly having to sign books on the side while posting someone else’ parcel, but it was part of the fun of it all. Still, I continue to sign copies daily and it feels so strange knowing that people want my scrawl all over the first pages of their new book.

I got home feeling tired, happy and totally overwhelmed to a bottle of champagne and the most delicious cheesecake made by one of the best people ever.

A publication day during a pandemic – tick.

All in all publication day numero uno was perfect, here’s to (hopefully) many more!
